Autumn 2021 – In Good Health Newsletter

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2021 is well and truly here, and we are so relieved that we can currently move about our community and carry out our work in a less restricted fashion than the previous (surreal) year!  On that note, I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope that it has been a happy and healthy one so far. I am very excited about the upcoming events we have planned so please stay tuned to our social pages and email mailouts for more information to come.

I am incredibly proud of the work the Foundation has achieved already in 2021. Our community has proven yet again that their generosity and support is exceptional. It is truly humbling to witness such a strong community spirit in action, and in light of the difficult year we have had, our collective results are even more impressive.

Our recent BBQ fundraiser held at Bunnings Hoppers Crossing on January 31st was a huge success! $3,200 was raised and we could not achieve what we do without our amazing volunteers. A sincere thank you to Volunteer Board Members – Founding Member Nik Tsardakis and Chair Daniel McDonald. And thank you to our wonderful volunteers Wilma Seymour, Heather Brett, Wendy Darlington and Pam Hope.

Our local businesses also supported our BBQ and I’d like to thank Jo McClure from JM Virtual Business Services, Jason McClure from VIP Home Services, Renay Ahmed from Wyndham Cache, Aarati Neemkar from Max My Profit – Aarati, Melissa Hickson from Prime Residential Property, Anu Aggarwal from Find My Real Estate and Daniel McDonald from McDonald Legal for helping out on the day.

I would also like to thank MBE Point Cook for donating $200 from the sales of their Christmas cards. 100% of proceeds from the BBQ and the Christmas cards went towards purchasing the AccuVein for the Werribee Mercy Paediatrics Ward.

As you can see, we have already kicked some major goals this year and we are beyond excited to achieve more great things together! Your continued support means the world to us and we are grateful for everything you do and give.

Kind regards

Leanne

OUR ACCUVEIN GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED!

With absolute gratitude I am so pleased to announce that we have raised enough money to purchase the AccuVein for the Werribee Mercy Hospital Paediatrics Ward!  The vein finder will help to ease the distress of our littlest patients and anything to make their hospital experience less traumatic is worth its weight in gold. It is my honour to send a huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported this worthy cause.  A special mention to the Lions Club of Point Cook for donating the remaining $500 required to reach our goal. On behalf of the precious recipients of the AccuVein and their families we thank you!

FUNDS FOR THE WERRRIBEE MERCY HEALTH TRIAGE LINE HAVE BEEN RAISED

Another major achievement has been raising the $13,900 required to upgrade the Werribee Mercy Mental Health Triage Line.  The 15 year old phone system was due for an upgrade, to support our vulnerable community members.

I would like to thank everyone who donated to make this phone system upgrade possible.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! CAN YOU HELP?

We are always looking for volunteers because without these amazing people, we simply cannot achieve the goals we aim for. Volunteering with the Werribee Hospital Foundation can take many forms. You can donate financially, grill sausages at a fundraiser bbq, help at an event, crochet goods to sell at a market stall or even assist with admin tasks. There are so many different ways you can get involved and it’s personally tailored to suit your expertise and the level of commitment that you are comfortable with.

Any amount of your spare time is received with gratitude and your help means we can do so much more for patients and staff at our local hospital.  Helping out is also a great way to meet other like-minded people, and who doesn’t love a good soul? As the saying goes: ‘teamwork makes the dream work’. And here at the Foundation we have a beautiful dream to create a fantastic medical resource, our local hospital, for all to benefit from.

If you would like to be a part of our team, or even join us for just a one-off event, we would love to hear from you. For more information and ways to connect click here: whf.org.au

A REMINDER OF HOW LUCKY WE ARE TO HAVE WERRIBEE MERCY HOSPITAL ON OUR DOORSTEP

Having Werribee Mercy Hospital Neonatal Services within 10 minutes of her home was a godsend for Point Cook local and business owner of Eagle Life Lending Solutions, Gracious Chidhakwa. Her twins were born early at 34 and half weeks at Monash Hospital in Clayton, which is over an hour’s drive away from the family home.

Although the newborns were in good health the doctors wanted to monitor their progress for a couple of weeks. Fortunately, to save Gracious and her husband Godwin from making the daily commute to be by their precious twin’s side, the babies were transferred to the Werribee Mercy Hospital. From there they received superb care and were able to experience that magic ‘newborn bubble’ stage without the added exhaustion of long car journeys. Being physically separated from your baby is never an easy thing, however knowing they are on the opposite side of the city to you is a stress beyond measure.

Gracious and Godwin are very grateful for the warm kindness that was shown to their family by the maternity nurses. The excellent care that was given resulted in their twins thriving and being able to go home as planned. They would highly recommend the Werribee Mercy Maternity Hospital to others planning a family, and confirm they received the same excellent care when they returned there for the birth of their third child.

We love hearing past patient stories so if you have one to share please email us at hello@whf.org.au
