The Werribee Mercy Hospital manages mental health services across Melbourne’s South West, operating a 24-hour mental health triage line for people in acute mental distress and for referrals to support services. The line receives upwards of 25,000 calls each year, and the pandemic has created an unprecedented and fast-escalating demand.
Unfortunately, the 15 year old phone system was overdue for an upgrade and the sudden increase in demand meant swift action needed to be taken. The Werribee Hospital Foundation reached out to local community members and businesses to raise the money required to make the upgrade possible. To be able to raise $13,900 during the height of the pandemic, a time when many people were suffering financial uncertainty, is testament to the generosity and kindness we have in our community. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported this appeal.
