Delivery Day of Ride-On-Ambulances a hit with Paediatric Patients

Our 2021 Christmas Appeal focused on giving ‘Gifts of Care’ to help make a patient’s hospital stay more comfortable.  One of the items sitting very high on our wish-list was the Ride-On Ambulance for the Paediatrics Ward at the Werribee Mercy Hospital.

The mini ambulance is designed to let the hospital’s youngest patients drive themselves to the operating theatre, through the corridor from the pre-op bay.  The ride-on ambulance is remote controlled by a nurse, and takes the fun factor up and the fear factor down. It also provides a very welcome distraction for parents at what is always a very stressful time.

Anything to help reduce the pre-operative anxiety of children and their families is a priority for the Foundation, and we are so happy that we were able to deliver TWO ride-on ambulances to the Paediatrics ward!

Drop-off day was a very exciting and emotional time for everyone involved. We hope that this fun but important toy brings a smile to every child that rides it, and that their lessened anxiety will play a part in their successful and swift recovery.

Thank you to Ride & Smile and everyone who donated towards our Gift of Care campaign.
