Carmel Filippone gifts Paediatric Cot to Mother & Baby Unit.

The safe delivery of a newborn is of utmost importance to every parent. As Wyndham residents, we are fortunate to have access to world-class facilities at the Werribee Mercy Hospital, where Carmel Filippone, Director of M&C Accountants, gave birth.

Throughout her maternal checkups and birthing experience, Carmel received personalised care that made her feel supported and safe. As a way of showing gratitude, she wanted to give back to the hospital to ensure they can continue providing excellent care for future mothers and their babies.

Carmel connected with Leanne, CEO of Wyndham Health Foundation, and soon learned about the Foundation’s mission and the significant impact it makes to Wyndham’s public health services. These values aligned with Carmel’s desire to give back, and after reviewing the Foundation’s ‘wish list’ Carmel decided to make a generous donation in the form of purchasing a Paediatric Cot for the Mother and Baby Unit.   The Mother and Baby Unit provides care for women and their babies, when inpatient mental health treatment is required for a mother in her baby’s first year of life.

Mental illness at this crucial time can affect a mother’s relationship with her baby. It can undermine a woman’s confidence and belief in her ability to be a good mother.

Mother & Baby Units are designed to keep mothers and their babies together. Specialist staff nurture and support the mother infant relationship on the ward at the same time as the mother has treatment for her mental illness.

Around 1 in 5 pregnant women will have a mental health problem during their pregnancy, and in the year after they have a baby.

Each cot is worth over $6,000 and Leanne, along with the Wyndham Health Foundation, extends deep appreciation and thanks to Carmel and M&C Accountants for their generous gift.

Carmel is a valued supporter of the Foundation, having previously served as a major sponsor of our 2022 Golf Day. The Foundation feels fortunate and deeply grateful to be recipients of her dedicated commitment to their mission of supporting public healthcare for the residents of Wyndham.
