This Christmas the Werribee Hospital Foundation is raising funds for the purchase of a new piece of equipment for the Paediatric Ward – an AccuVein. AccuVein is an innovation in medical imagining technology that gives health carers a visual on veins beneath the surface, thereby radically reducing the margin of error in cannula insertion.
This is the world’s most commonly performed invasive medical procedure, that routinely takes several attempts to get right
Children are already under emotional stress when they arrive at hospital. A negative experience at the point of admission can create a sense of fear for the whole of the child’s stay. This sort of incident can have a permanent impact, felt acutely by sick children who have a lifetime of frequent hospitalisations and intravenous cannulas, with a fresh trauma every time.
The new Paediatric Ward saw over 2,000 admissions in its first year alone and gets busier by the week as people become more aware that we’re fully operational.
